Oaklaw Consultancy provides medico-legal services in gynaecology, obstetrics, urogynaecology and pelvic mesh litigation, led by Dr Wael Agur. I worked with them for just over a year as an operational IT consultant.
Oaklaw had been migrated by a previous provider from Microsoft Teams to ClickUp. The new system created confusion and inefficiency, with tasks and invoices regularly overlooked. Despite still paying for Microsoft 365, the business was spending £3,600–£4,800 per year on ClickUp licences, adding to costs without delivering clarity. The result was a stressed team and limited capacity to focus on the wider business.
I began by supporting the director’s individual workflow, connecting Notion to his Zotero research hub and creating a personal website in WordPress. My role then expanded to wider systems. I replicated the useful structures from ClickUp inside Microsoft Teams, using Microsoft Lists for client databases and project tracking, and restored Teams as the communication hub. I also provided training on Outlook aliases and workflow practices, ensuring the team could use the tools more effectively. Once I had taken them as far as I could, I handed over to a local IT provider to deliver ongoing managed services.
The transition reduced unnecessary costs and streamlined day-to-day work. With greater clarity and less firefighting, Oaklaw identified over £40,000 in unpaid invoices that had previously been overlooked.
Simplifying digital infrastructure not only cut annual software spend but also gave Oaklaw the operational clarity to strengthen its financial position. This improved visibility supported their ability to focus on core medico-legal services and sustain long-term growth.
