Duncan Leask, Managing Director of Monuments Consultancy Ltd, founded his business to deliver growth, strategic reviews, and solutions for the insurance sector. His services range from board advisory and director work to mentoring, training, and working with insure-tech businesses. Drawing inspiration for the company name from the Wallace Monument in Stirling and the Monument to the Great Fire of London, Duncan caters to a diverse, international client base. As the business grew and he began securing high-level engagements across the globe (including Australia, Hong Kong, and Vietnam), Duncan needed a polished, professional digital presence that perfectly balanced his personal brand with his corporate identity.

The Challenge

Duncan required a comprehensive digital infrastructure and brand identity to support his expanding consultancy. The core challenges included:

Digital Presence & Branding: He needed a professional website and a refined visual identity. While he already had a previously commissioned logo that he liked, he lacked the supporting brand elements—such as official fonts and colours—necessary to create a cohesive and premium look across all his platforms.
Technical Infrastructure: He required a modern, fully responsive website with a streamlined appointment booking system to manage international client calls effectively, all of which needed to be seamlessly integrated into his existing IT setup.
Administrative Workflow: Managing finances, invoicing, and accounting was becoming a point of administrative friction as his client base expanded.
Professional Materials: As part of his training and mentoring services, Duncan needed a high-quality, visually appealing presentation template that was versatile enough for any scenario, as well as a way to maintain brand visibility during frequent video calls.
Operational IT Support: Duncan faced various day-to-day technical hurdles, such as iCloud/iMessage syncing issues, digital business card updates, and needing advice on cybersecurity (such as using VPNs while travelling abroad).

The Solution

Acting as a Strategy, Operations, and Information Technology Consultant, I provided an end-to-end service package designed to make Duncan’s business smoother, more efficient, and highly professional.

Brand Identity Refinement: While we initially explored new bespoke logo designs, we ultimately decided that a logo he had previously commissioned from another designer was the strongest choice for the business. I then built a cohesive brand strategy around this existing asset, carefully selecting complementary fonts and a distinct colour palette to establish full brand guidelines. I also assisted with sourcing branded merchandise, such as custom transfer stickers for notebooks.
Website Development & Booking Integration: I designed and built a fully responsive WordPress website hosted via Hostinger. I liaised directly with his managed IT provider—who continues to manage the domain—to ensure seamless DNS configuration and integration. I also integrated an automated appointment booking system (Calendly) into the site to easily facilitate his international scheduling.
IT Partnerships & Integration: Duncan already had an established IT provider managing his Microsoft 365 tenancy, domain, and email services. Rather than disrupting this, I worked collaboratively with his IT provider to ensure the new WordPress website and hosting were smoothly integrated into his existing tech stack.
IT & Workflow Support: Beyond the core integration, I provided practical IT troubleshooting, which included resolving iPhone/iMessage routing issues, updating his digital business cards with functional QR codes for networking, and advising on VPN usage for secure international travel. To address the friction in his financial administration, I also suggested and advised him to adopt FreeAgent to drastically simplify his invoicing and accounting processes.
Presentation & Digital Asset Design: I created a universal, highly versatile PowerPoint slide template incorporating the newly solidified Monuments Consultancy branding. This gave him a flexible foundation to use for any future presentation, whether a corporate pitch or a specific training session like his “Future-Proofing Insurance Careers” masterclass. Additionally, I designed a bespoke virtual camera background for Microsoft Teams and Zoom. This ensured his company logo remained clearly visible during video calls without getting in the way or cluttering the screen.
Empowering Independence: Throughout the process, I ensured Duncan and his team (including his new support staff member, Kat) had the necessary access, training, and backend analytics visibility to manage the WordPress website and make tweaks independently.

Streamlined Operations: With the new WordPress website successfully integrated into his existing IT ecosystem, an automated booking system in place, and simplified invoicing and accounting through FreeAgent, administrative friction has been significantly reduced.
Enhanced Professional Delivery: The versatile PowerPoint template ensures that any presentation Duncan delivers maintains a slick, high-end visual standard that matches his industry expertise. Paired with his custom virtual background, his digital presence on international video calls is consistently polished and branded.
Resolved IT Friction: Targeted technical support eliminated day-to-day frustrations, from messaging glitches to secure remote working setups, allowing Duncan to focus entirely on client delivery and business growth.

By addressing both the surface-level marketing needs and working cooperatively with his existing IT provider to integrate systems seamlessly—while also introducing smart operational tools like FreeAgent and versatile digital assets—we created a holistic and friction-free solution. Monuments Consultancy is now fully equipped to project a premium image and operate efficiently on a global scale.
