About Me
I help competent people turn ambitious ideas into businesses that work.
Hello! 👋 I’m Charlie, a fractional IT consultant, marketing consultant and strategic growth partner.

I help people and organisations understand what is holding them back, decide what needs to change and make that change happen.
The problem might appear to be your website, your marketing, your technology or an inefficient process. Often, however, the real issue sits somewhere between them.
That is where I am most useful.
I look across the wider business, find the friction and connect the commercial, technological and human parts of the problem. Then I help you design and implement a practical way forward.
You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what service you need. Tell me what you are trying to achieve, what is frustrating you or what no longer seems to be working.
Figuring out the real problem is part of my job.
Another brain in the business
My work spans technology, marketing, operations, customer experience, user research, websites, systems and strategy.
That breadth is intentional.
A marketing problem may actually begin with an unclear offer. A technology problem may be caused by a process that never made sense. A new website may look better without fixing the fragmented systems and customer journey behind it.
Treating these things separately can produce a polished solution to the wrong problem.
I step back, understand how the pieces connect and ask:
What are you trying to achieve, what is getting in the way and what genuinely needs to happen next?
Sometimes the answer is a new system, website or customer journey. Sometimes it is better research, clearer positioning, a simpler process or more effective use of something you already have.
Occasionally, the right recommendation is to change nothing.
I am comfortable telling you that too.
Strategy connected to execution
I do not want to produce recommendations that disappear into a folder.
My work can begin with research, diagnosis and strategy, but it does not have to end there. I can design the solution, build or implement it, coordinate specialists, train the people using it and stay involved while it becomes part of the way you work.
Depending on the situation, I might be:
- investigating why something is not working;
- helping you think through an important decision;
- challenging an assumption;
- mapping a process or customer journey;
- selecting and implementing technology;
- improving your positioning, brand or marketing;
- building a website, workflow or automation;
- helping your team understand and adopt a new way of working.
The role changes because the problem changes.
How I think
My approach can be summarised in three words:
Diagnose. Design. Deliver.
Diagnose
I begin by understanding what is happening beneath the obvious symptoms. I ask questions, observe how the work is really being done and distinguish the underlying problem from the inconvenience it has created.
Design
Once the problem is clear, I help you decide what should stay, what should change and what you do not need at all. The best solution is not necessarily the newest, largest or most expensive. It is the one that supports the way you need to work.
Deliver
I turn the decision into something real. That might involve implementation, research, writing, design, training, project leadership or working alongside other specialists.
You remain involved in the decisions that matter, and I make sure you understand what has been created and why.
The background behind the work
My background brings together technology, user research, cognitive science, digital strategy, marketing and operational improvement.
I have worked with businesses, charities, universities, researchers, consultants and independent professionals. My work has ranged from improving organisation-wide digital experiences to rebuilding business systems, developing brands, creating websites and uncovering substantial operational and financial opportunities.
This combination allows me to move between the human and technical sides of a problem.
I care about how people understand information, make decisions and use systems in the real world. A solution is not successful simply because it works technically. It must also make sense to the people expected to use it and support the outcome the organisation is trying to achieve.
Who I work best with
I work best with competent, thoughtful and driven people who care about what they are building.
You may have reached a point where:
- the business has evolved, but your systems or professional presence have not;
- technology has become too important to handle through occasional fixes;
- your marketing does not communicate the value of what you provide;
- different parts of the business are no longer working together properly;
- too much knowledge and responsibility still depends on you;
- you have several possible directions and need another brain in the room;
- you know something needs to change, but cannot yet see the whole problem.
You do not need to have everything figured out before contacting me.
In many cases, figuring it out is the work.
Ways I can work with you
Depending on what you need, I can support you as your:
Fractional IT Consultant
Ongoing technology leadership and practical support without employing a full-time senior IT professional.
Fractional Marketing Consultant
Strategic and practical marketing support that connects your customers, positioning, offers, brand and wider business goals.
Fractional Growth Partner
Cross-business support spanning technology, marketing, operations, customer experience and strategy.
For a defined transformation, I also offer my Professional Presence and Tech Transformation, which brings your website, brand, customer experience and internal systems up to the level of the work you already provide.
You do not need to choose the correct option before speaking to me. The first conversation is there to help us understand what would actually be useful.
My newsletter
Every couple of weeks, I share something I think is genuinely worth saying.
That might be a practical technology fix, something learned through client work, a decision happening behind the scenes or an idea involving business, design, research or cognitive science.
Expect useful observations, experiments, lessons from the logbook and the occasional tangent. No daily marketing barrage and no attempt to turn every email into a sales pitch.
Let’s figure out what needs to happen next
If something is not working, has stopped keeping up or simply feels more difficult than it should, tell me about it.
You can book a short introductory call or send me a message. You do not need a diagnosis, a technical specification or even the right words.
Bring me the situation. We will work out the next step together.
