FAQs
Questions About Working Together?
Here’s some frequently asked questions I get—your answer is likely here.
But if you still have questions, please contact me. I’m happy to help.
What Do You Do?
I help people and organisations diagnose what’s not working and improve it or fix it.
In practice that can mean streamlining systems, fixing messy processes, setting up digital tools, supporting user research, improving workflows, or turning a vague problem into a clear plan of action.
What is Fractional Work?
Fractional work means bringing in an outsider in to provide ongoing expertise, leadership and practical support.
Rather than a permanent hire, you get access to the skills and experience you need for the time you need it. That might mean a few hours each month, regular days of support, or a flexible arrangement that changes depending on what’s happening.
Different Types of Fractional Support
Fractional Information Technology
Fractional IT support helps you make more informed decisions about technology, systems and digital operations.
Support Can Include:
- reviewing technology
- improving workflows
- managing digital projects
- introducing new systems
- solving recurring problems
- ongoing technical direction
Fractional Marketing
Fractional Marketing provides ongoing strategic and practical marketing support without a full internal marketing team.
Support Can Include:
- positioning
- messaging
- website copy,
- launch campaigns
- content writing
- customer research
- distribution systems
- time and budget allocation
Fractional Growth
Fractional growth looks across the wider organisation to identify bottlenecks and solve friction.

- offers and services
- customer journey
- user experience
- systemwide integration
Who Do You Work With?
I work with businesses, organisations, small teams, founders, consultants, charities, academic institutions, and competent driven professionals who need support.
What if I Don’t Know Exactly What I Need?
That’s the perfect time to get in touch. In many cases, part of the work is figuring out what the actual problem is.
If you can explain what feels stuck, frustrating, inefficient, or unclear, that’s enough to get started.
What Kinds of Projects Do You Do?
I can help with:
- reviewing and improving websites
- setting up or improving digital systems
- streamlining admin and operational processes
- mapping workflows and solving slow downs
- improving information storage and sharing
- supporting user research and customer service improvements
- using existing tools and systems more efficiently
- turning ambitious ideas into actionable plans
- supporting small teams with practical digital strategy
The work is a mix of strategy, technology, operations, creativity—and this isn’t an exhaustive list. So, if your particular project isn’t listed, get in touch! I might be able to help, or point you in the right direction.
Do You Build Websites?
Yes, I can help with websites.
That may include planning the structure, improving the copy, reviewing the user experience, building or updating pages, improving clarity, and helping make sure the website actually supports what you are trying to achieve.
Do You Only Give Advice, or Do You Also Implement Things?
I do both.
Sometimes you need a thought partner for strategy and decision-making. Sometimes you need someone to build, set up, fix, organise, or improve something.
The actual work depends on your needs, but whether you need a strategic thought partner, high touch hands-on support, or both—I’ve got you covered. Our work is practical and actionable for your business—not general or theoretical advice.
What is Cognitive Science?
Cognitive science is the study of human intelligence and behaviour. It brings together psychology, philosophy, linguistics, neuroscience, computer science and artificial intelligence to understand how people think, communicate, and interact with the world around them.
My background in cognitive science helps me look at problems from a human and technical perspective. In other words, making systems that work—while also making sense to the people using them. Otherwise, what’s the point? 😛
What Happens on an Introductory Call?
Our first call is 15 minutes and totally informal. It’s a chance to explain what you’re dealing with, and ask questions. There is no pressure and no commitment. If it seems like we’re a fit, we’ll discuss the best next step.
Can I Contact You Without Booking a Call First?
Yes.
You can use the contact form and explain things in writing. You can also message me through website live chat, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or Instagram.
Do You Work with People Outside Edinburgh?
Yes.
Yes. Most of my work is done remotely, so I can usually work with people and organisations across the UK, and beyond. I can also travel to other countries if necessary.
How Do You Decide What Needs to Be Done?
Good question! I start by understanding your unique situation. That means getting curious. I’ll ask questions, look at existing assets, identify patterns, and then propose a potential plan to move forward.
The aim is not to add unnecessary complexity, but to create a practical way forward that actually works for you.
How Much Does It Cost to Work with You?
Costs depend on the type of work, level of support, and project scope..
Depending on what you need, the work may be a one-off project. Or for ongoing support, a flexible arrangement or retainer could make more sense. But regardless, costs are transparent, and any changes are clearly communicated before work happens.
As a guide price, please prepare to invest a minimum of £700 per engagement.
Are You Currently Taking on New Work?
Yes.
I’m always excited to work with new people – just send a quick message and I’ll let you know if I think we are the right fit for each other.
Even if I can’t help immediately, I can usually suggest a useful next step or point you in the right direction.

Just get in touch! You can book a 15-minute introductory call, message me on the contact form, or reach out through live chat, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or Instagram.
