I’m Charlie, a fractional IT consultant helping competent, driven people and organisations figure out what’s broken and make it work.
My work sits across technology, systems, strategy, user research, websites, digital tools and operational improvement. In practice, that means I help people untangle messy processes, make better use of the tools they already have, and build clearer ways of working that support the goals they are trying to achieve.
I am especially useful when things feel unclear, inefficient or stuck. You may know something needs to change, but not yet know whether the problem is your website, your systems, your processes, your communication, your data, your tools, or the way everything connects. That is often where I can help.
My approach is practical, thoughtful and hands-on. I do not just advise from a distance. I help identify what is happening, understand what matters, and turn that into action.

I like to understand the real problem before jumping to a solution.
That means asking useful questions, listening carefully, spotting patterns, and helping separate the symptoms from the root cause. From there, I help create a way forward that is realistic, useful and proportionate.
Sometimes the answer is a new system. Sometimes it is simplifying what already exists. Sometimes it is clearer communication, better structure, better use of data, or a more practical way of making decisions.
The goal is not to add complexity. The goal is to make things work better.
Who I work best with
I work best with people who are capable, thoughtful and driven, but who have reached a point where their current systems, processes or tools are no longer supporting the level of work they want to do.
That might be a business owner, founder, consultant, charity, small team, academic project, service organisation, or busy professional.
You do not need to have everything figured out before getting in touch. In many cases, figuring it out is the work.
My background
My background brings together user research, cognitive science, digital strategy, technology, operations, websites and organisational improvement.
I have worked across university, business, research, consultancy and digital projects, helping people understand problems, improve systems, and connect ideas to practical action.
This combination means I am comfortable moving between the human side of a problem and the technical side. I care about whether something works in the real world, not just whether it looks good on paper.
